New Tashkent Airport: Japan May Join Financing
At a meeting in Tokyo, officials proposed bringing JBIC into financing the state share of the Yangi Toshkent airport project. Japanese banks are exploring the Uzbek market.

At a meeting in Tokyo, officials proposed involving the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in financing the state share of the Yangi Toshkent international airport project. Kun.uz reported this. The same meeting discussed major Japanese banks entering the Uzbek market. Details of participation, amounts, and timelines were not disclosed.
The new airport is one of the country's largest infrastructure plans. The state is covering part of the costs and is looking for external financing for its share. A lender like JBIC usually means long-term money and closer attention to procurement transparency. For suppliers, this is a signal: project procurement may follow international rules, with clear technical specifications and experience requirements.
What this means for suppliers
Those who prepare documents in advance and prove their experience will be best placed to win. This applies mainly to construction, equipment and machinery supply, IT solutions for airport infrastructure, energy, and logistics. If financing goes through an international bank, procurement often comes with independent oversight and higher demands on participants: proof of qualifications, financial statements, and compliance with technical standards. Expect some lots to be split into stages and delivery deadlines to be tight.
It is too early to say when specific tenders will appear: so far, this is only a proposal and discussion. But such projects rarely launch suddenly — first come negotiations, then the creation of a project structure, then procurement. You have time to prepare your base.
According to TenderLabs data, as of November 2, 2026, there are 2,316 open lots in the Construction sector — the largest pool among all industries. Equipment and Machinery has 870 lots, Energy has 921, and IT has 1,174. These figures show where the main volume of procurement is concentrated right now. If you work in these areas, keep an eye on new lots related to transport infrastructure.
What to do now
- 1Check whether you have proven experience in airport or transport infrastructure projects. If not, look for partners or subcontracting.
- 2Get your financial statements and documents in order: charter, licenses, certificates, and tax clearance certificates. International lenders require a full set.
- 3Study the technical standards typically used in projects with JBIC involvement — this will help you prepare technical specifications in advance and avoid failing at the qualification stage.
- 4Set up tender monitoring in TenderLabs for the Construction, Equipment and Machinery, Energy, and IT sectors — so you don't miss the first procurements for the project.
- 5If you have contacts with Japanese companies or experience working with them, use it as an advantage: Japanese banks are discussing entering the Uzbek market, and joint projects could become an additional channel for you.
